Abstract: An advantage of Eclipse as a development platform is lies in its open architecture, which allows using Eclipse as a common environment for working with various technologies. Today, Eclipse is successfully used as a development tool for Java, C++, PHP and other languages; as UML modeling and user interface design instrument; as a build tool; as an application life cycle management tool, etc. Such versatility of Eclipse is based on its ability to connect with various external plug-ins, which, as a matter of fact, define the development environment functionality. The Subversive is one of such plug-ins that allows consolidating Eclipse and the Subversion capabilities. Currently, the Subversive is one of the most popular open-source plug-ins in the Eclipse ecosystem. Using the Subversive, Eclipse users can work with the Subversion directly from the development environment. Benefiting from Eclipse advantages, the Subversive can be used not only as an ordinary client interface to the Subversion but also as the Subversion data access provider for other plug-ins. It allows creating Subversion-based integrated solutions for Eclipse, such as, for example, tasks tracker with an option to review source code changes made within the scope of every task. Such functionality, which can be achieved by integrating the Subversive with the other Eclipse plug-ins, distinguishes the Subversive among other Subversion clients. Igor Vinnykov is the project lead of the Subversive project. He is a co-founder of Deiotariana LLC, a development partner of Polarion Software GmbH. In Polarion Software, he is responsible for coordination and development of open source projects based on Subversion, such as the Subversive and SVN Web Client. He also takes part in various commercial projects of Polarion Software as a project manager.
